WordPress plugins – There are a tons of them. They are everywhere! Is there a list of plugins that has all the necessary ones for any web site? I’d say NO.
What follows are a bunch of plugins you need to know about if you have a WordPress site. They stand out in their ease of implementation and functionality. What follows is a list of free plugins everyone should be aware of before searching for plugins.
If Ad revenue is one of the major revenue streams for your web site this is a must have. What this does is simply control access to your site if users are viewing it without ads! The plugin has different levels at which one can address this issue with a visitor. It can either be a message or a more stringent redirection approach. What I like is the control they give you over the message your user sees.
Having backups can save us numerous hours. We all know that. Having this peace of mind is a must have. This plugin backups themes, comments, media and a whole lot more. Makes migrating your site between hosting providers a walk in the park when used correctly.
Out of the long list of free share button plugins I tried this was the easiest to implement. Also it has the most comprehensive list of networks for free. Most of the other plugins I sampled had some networks available only if you upgrade to a paid plan. It offers both a floating share bar and the ones that go with the post. Additionally if you sign up with them you will see additional features such as minimum post count show, related post and so on. Overall very happy with this free offering.
Finding a plugin that is simple is really the hard part. I personally do not think this plugin will sweep you off your feet! But then that was not what I was looking for. I was just looking for a simple contact form I can implement quickly. This just did that. I had a contact form set up in minutes. Free and simple, that is what I like.
If you have a form taking user input then having captcha is a must. A captcha will help validate the entity on the other side is a human and not some malware trying to spam you. The basic captcha is simple to implement. Was just about copying over a short code to the page to want the captcha on and you are done, for free!
After trying out a few it was easiest to make this one do what I wanted it to. I had to write some custom css around it to make it look like the rest of the site. Easy of implementation and the fact that it does what it advertises keeps it on my list. As always it is free too.
This makes adding ads to any post a piece of cake. All you have to do is choose where on the page you want to see the ads. You can also specify if you want to see ads after a certain paragraph number. Further there is a customization switch between desktop and mobile giving you more control over how ads are inserted in both. In addition to the ad insertion it also allows you to add header and footer scripts, example google analytics code or any .js you would like to add to your header. So it does work on two plugins in 1. Love it!
What this does is allows you to create a subscriber base easily. A few other plugins I tried needed me to create an account with other third party email senders. Nothing like that here. I simply installed the plugin and saw the Email Subscribers tab where I can manage all subscribers also control the emails and confirmation messages. Overall I needed something simple and this worked.
This plugin lives up to its name i.e. it is really simple to implement. Allows you to display author images with some variations, also I like the cool rotating effect on image hover. Also allows to link authors social foot print and bio. Overall simple and free talk to me!
This plugin is simply awesome if you want to track down a piece of code in your WordPress Installation. It will search by directory of your choosing also search through all php, css, .js and so on and exactly give you the line you are searching for. Does not end here it also allows you to make changes to the string right then and there. Word of caution you absolutely need to know what you are doing and take a backup of your site before you try this. Changing wrong code can break your site! careful, at your won risk! I have talked more about how I used this plugin in the below post.
